What is the Block Paving process?

After initial design plans have been made, preparation for removing the existing driveway or patio can begin. Usually this is done with a hydraulic breaker, mini digger and Stihl saw. All debris will be collected together and removed from the premises by vehicle or truck. The remaining ground will be made level and compressed with a compactor plate.

Next we make a solid surface for the driveway or patio using grade 1 stone. This is made level and compressed using the compactor plate.

On top of the grade 1 stone we use sharp sand and cement to create a surface for the blocks to be placed on. We carefully level out the sand to ensure water does not sit on the surface of the blocks.

After the blocking phase is complete, the sides are secured with cement to keep the blocks in place.

Dry sand is brushed over the top of the blocks and compressed into the blocks using the compactor plate. This makes the dry sand seep into the gaps to create a solid bond.

The end result is always impressive.

What Block Paving options are there?

Block paving is unique in shape and colour. With plenty of styles on the market it can suit any preference.

The most common style is standard rectangle blocks or cobble blocks. They range in colours from sand, brindle, or granite.

We highly recommend you visit a building yard, such as Joseph Parr and see some samples for yourself.
